On Thursday, August 27, at 7 PM, two independent exhibitions will open at Bamberger Straße 18:

CHEATS AND GODS REDUX and FROM THE DÜSSELDORF SCENE · p.w.richard Collection.

CHEATS AND GODS REDUX

CHEATS AND GODS is still here.

Since opening in March, the exhibition has continued to change over the past months. Individual works disappeared; new ones were added. After almost half a year, it now returns in an altered form: REDUX.

Returned and different – like Fortuna Redux, the Fortuna of a fortunate homecoming. Modulated, shifted in its horizon of meaning by new works, and concentrated. Without abandoning the Romantic, post-Kantian premise at the heart of CHEATS AND GODS: the human being as a creature that continually conceives and imagines itself and its world anew. A second, shorter chapter. Familiar things remain, others shift, and new relationships emerge between the gods.

History, myth, God, gods, cheats, freedom, a dancing Christ – and we, as always, right in the middle.

FROM THE DÜSSELDORF SCENE

At the same time, p.w.richard opens an exhibition of prints from his collection. On view are works by Joseph Beuys, Imi Knoebel, Heinz Mack, Blinky Palermo, Sigmar Polke, Günther Uecker, and others.

From the Düsseldorf Scene looks at one of the defining art scenes of postwar Germany: from ZERO and Joseph Beuys, through new approaches to materiality and the expanded concept of art, to Minimal Art and Capitalist Realism and at a Düsseldorf whose influence was not limited to the visual arts, but later also became a defining centre for electronic music, punk, and Neue Deutsche Welle.

CIRCULAR IV 26 – CHEATS AND GODS · Final Days · Persian Salon & Finissage

Dear friends,

For Berlin Gallery Weekend, we open the exhibition CHEATS AND GODS one final time in a concentrated form – as a space that can once more be fully traversed before it transforms.

May 1–3, 2026

On Friday and Saturday, I will be present and happy to guide you personally through the exhibition.

Persian Salon · Finissage

On Friday, May 8, the exhibition shifts into another state: into a Persian salon, initiated by Elshan Ghasimi, and at the same time, the first finissage of CHEATS AND GODS.

The Persian salon brings together music, poetry, and conversation – a form cultivated over centuries as an intimate space of thought and resonance. At its centre is the radif, the living memory of classical Persian music, recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.

Elshan Ghasimi is among the most distinctive voices of her generation. In her work, she combines a precise command of this tradition with a sense of contemporaneity that renders the salon not a reconstruction but a living, present space.

The finissage is conceived as a transition: an evening between work, sound, and encounter; open yet condensed, with food and drinks.

Currently, Elshan Ghasimi is in residence at the Podiumfestival Esslingen, where she is composing a new piece for harp, clarinet, and voice. It may surprise you: contemporary classical Persian music!

The premiere and opening of the festival will take place on April 30. You are warmly invited to attend.

CHEATS AND GODS JMH Schindele Opening 6. March 2026

Dear friends,

A few days ago, Bublitz reached its fifteenth year as a platform. Today, for the first time, I invite you to a genuinely different role: as a solo artist, carried and supported by a collective of people and lovers. The exhibition CHEATS AND GODS opens on March 6 and presents works in stone and iron from the past two years.

For this exhibition—or more precisely, for one paradigmatic CHEAT—Lukas Töpfer has written an essay. An excerpt from the text IDDQD (God Mode) marks the point of departure...

“What Julian Schindele engraved into a limestone in 2025 is not a name, but a seemingly cryptic combination of letters. ‘IDDQD’ is written there, in this beautiful, inconspicuous natural stone, as if we were being given a riddle, a code that has yet to be deciphered. The five difficult-to-understand letters are further emphasised by a deep black, which fills them and absorbs the light, trapping a higher power. They appear noble and meaningful, yet also somber, ultra-black, as mysterious as an acronym from a no longer spoken, ‘dead’ language. They bring to mind inscriptions such as ‘Et in Arcadia ego’, recalling fragments, ruins, and the remains of antiquity. They seem to have fallen out of the world: a world that no longer exists, yet refuses to disappear completely, to dissolve entirely into the present.”

Solidarity with Iran · CHEATS AND GODS · Persian Salon in Hamburg

Arghavān!

What secret is it
that each time spring returns,
it lays sorrow in our hearts?

That year after year
the earth is stained
with the blood of swallows,
and upon the scarred
inflicts wound upon wound

Dear friends,

The new year is not yet old and already drenched in blood.

We Europeans, in the relative comfort of our simulated catastrophes of delusion, slowly shed a naïve and decadent lethargy, while Iranians take to the streets for the desire for a system that we here have long since realised and believed to be secure.

Among many other gatherings, I would like to draw particular attention to the event “Solidarity with Iran” on 22 February at 3:00 pm at Restaurant PARS in Berlin-Charlottenburg [Grolmannstr. 53, 10623].

The lines that open this circular are by the exiled poet Hushang Ebtehaj (1928–2022). The artist and graphic designer Masoud Morgan selected them to animate them in the literal sense, to bring them to life and to give them a new look. He published his work yesterday. It can be found here.

Yes, social media is the cancer of our societies. They corrode democratic systems and neural networks. And yet one should—without missing the dialectical momentum—be grateful that they exist in a country such as Iran. Otherwise, everything would be completely dark.

In Hamburg by the River

By the river in Hamburg lies a place of hospitality.
A place for art and community, for music, dance, and yoga:
the project space Övelgönne 106.

At this special location, the Persian musician and composer Elshan Ghasimi invites audiences four times this year to the Persian Salon.
The seated and reclining concert is free of charge; a reservation is recommended.

Elshan Ghasimi & Michael Kleeberg: Premiere on 20 February in Berlin

Elshan Ghasimi and the author Michael Kleeberg present, on 20 February 2026, the fruits of their collaboration in a new format:
a reading with music, a concert with text, or something else – existing in the eye and ear of the viewer and the listener.

“Where are we going? Always home.”
It is a poetic journey through the horrors of our time, toward harmony and a higher serenity of human hope.

The event at the Humboldt Library [Karolinenstraße 19, 13507 Berlin] begins at 7:30 pm. Admission is free, and no registration is required.

„The Zone of Interest“ – New Book by Lukas Töpfer

Dear commemorators,

For many years, Lukas Töpfer has been a valued and reliable advisor to the Bublitz platform. Now he has published a book—currently available only in German—entitled “Die Menschlichkeit des Massenmörders” (The Humanity of the Mass Murderer) that deserves our attention. It discusses a central new component in the reflection of the Shoah, the Holocaust, and thus—at least in the German context—the decisive orientation of our “Erinnerungskultur” (culture of remembrance). My own reading experience was that Töpfer uses a cultural artefact, its creation and reception, to reveal many of the psychologically and socially pressing issues of our time.

“Few films in recent years have provoked such contrasting reactions as Jonathan Glazer’s harshly criticised and highly acclaimed Auschwitz drama ‘The Zone of Interest’ (2023). On the one hand, the film was seen as an unusually accurate reconstruction of the past; on the other, as a controversial commentary on the present. Based on a careful comparison with historical sources about the commandant of the Auschwitz extermination camp and his family, this book focuses primarily on one question that the film seems to pose. Provocatively simplified, the question sounds like this: Are we all like Rudolf Höß?”
